Despite the current heat wave, I can't help thinking ahead to Fall as the Labor Day weekend approaches. The Fall Semester is already in full swing at College of DuPage, where I'll again be teaching in the Continuing Education department. Through reading assignments, writing exercises, class discussions, and instructor feedback, you'll learn how to address problems at every stage of your story. Required text: Beginnings, Middle and Ends by Nancy Kress. Please bring the text to the first class meeting on Sept. 17. Note: class is limited to 15 students, so register early! Class meets Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., Sept. 17–Oct. 29, 2015. Course ID: HUMNT-0002-006. Fee $179. * Turning Life into Fiction This one-day workshop will introduce you to techniques for creating fiction based on your own life events, or those of others. Learn how to mine your past for story ideas and details that will bring your fiction to life.
