Welcome to my e-mail newsletter for the end of July! In this issue: • Last call for summer writing camps • Teaching Authors Blog updates • My next publication coming soon • Please help “spread the word” Last call for summer writing camps! There are still a few slots open for my girls-only writing camps at the Hinsdale Center for the Arts. If you know anyone who may be interested, please pass along the information. Classes start next week (which means I’ll be VERY busy the next two weeks). Girls Write! For girls entering grades 4-5 July 27 – July 31, 2009 9:30 am – 12:30 pm or 1:15 – 4:15 pm Girls Write ON! For girls entering grades 6-8 Aug. 3 – Aug. 7, 2009 9:00 am – 12:00 noon For details, see http://www.hinsdalearts.org/SummerCamp.htm Teaching Authors Blog Update Our first book giveaway at www.TeachingAuthors.com was a great success! Ann Whitford Paul gave us a wonderful interview and we received lots of terrific comments from our readers. As a follow-up to the interview, our current topic is writing picture books. I’ll be the last Teaching Author to post on the subject, on Wednesday, July 29. Due stop by and visit. My next publication coming soon I am honored to have an article coming out in the 2010 Children’s Writer’s and Illustrator’s Market Guide, edited by Alice Pope, which should be available in August. In case you’re not familiar with it, the CWIM is the “bible” for those who write for children and teens. The book comes out annually, and includes listings of children’s book and magazine publishers along with feature articles. My feature is on considerations and tips for choosing character names, and is called, “What’s in a Name? Maybe More than You Think” To see a preview of the other articles, see Alice Pope’s July 16th CWIM blog: http://cwim.blogspot.com/search/label/2010%20Children%27s%20Writer%27s%20and%20Illustrator%27s%20Market Please help “spread the word” I hope you will forward this email to anyone you know who may be interested in information about my classes, publications, blog, etc. Also, please encourage them to subscribe at http://www.carmelamartino.com/newsletter.htm . I promise not to clutter your inbox—I don’t foresee sending this out more than once or twice a month. Of course, if you don’t find this newsletter helpful, or are feeling overwhelmed with email, you can always unsubscribe on the same webpage. If you have any questions, for the quickest response, don’t reply to this email. Instead, email me directly. Hope you having a wonderful summer. And happy reading!
