Registration is now open for my summer classes for children and adults. If you're interested, please register as soon as possible. Classes that don't meet the minimum enrollment at least eight days before the first scheduled session will be canceled. Children's Summer Camp - Girls Write! Summer Camps Return to Mayslake Peabody Estate * New Adult Writing Class at Waubonsee Community College This summer, I'm offering classes at Waubonsee Community College for the first time, beginning with a six-week hands-on workshop for adults called Writing for Children and Teens. This class is a real bargain! Here's the description: The best writing for children and teens needs as much craft (perhaps more!) as writing for adults. Let author Carmela Martino guide you in writing both fiction and nonfiction for young readers. Select the subject matter, point of view, and voice for your intended audience. Then create appealing and engaging characters, plots, and settings for various formats including magazines, picture books, and novels. Register for the section ending in 600 and you'll get verbal feedback on class assignments. Register for the section ending in 601 and you'll get verbal and written feedback on assignments from the instructor (up to 1200 words per assignment). Note: Bring a notebook and pencil/pen to class. Cost: $89 -- "Get Started Blogging," Saturday, June 28, 2014, Cost: $99 -- "Turning Life into Fiction," Saturday, July 19, 2014, Cost: $89 -- "Writing with Details: Bringing Your Characters to Life," Saturday, August 2, 2014, Cost: $89 * New Promising Young Writers! Children's Summer Camp This summer I'll be teaching a new, co-ed writing camp for students ages 11-14 at the Waubonsee Community College Sugar Grove Campus. Here's the description: In this camp, you'll hear excerpts from great children’s books, play word-related games, create writing in a variety of forms and share your works with each other. You'll learn where writers your age can get published and leave with your own composition book containing your work. July 14-18, 2014, 9 am – noon * Girls Write! Summer Camps Return to Mayslake Peabody Estate The Mayslake Peabody Estate turned out to be a terrific venue for the Girls Write! summer writing camps. This year, the camp for girls entering grades 4-5 will be held June 23-27 at 9:30 am-noon. The camp for girls entering grades 6-8 will be held Aug. 4-8 at 9:30 am – noon. Registration is limited.
