Carmela's E-Newsletter: Summer 2015
July 1, 2015
While you are likely gearing up for the holiday weekend, I’m looking ahead to teaching three children's writing camps, two this month and one in August. If you know any young authors who may be interested, please forward this email to them. For more detailed class descriptions and registration information, visit the Writing Classes page of my website. I’ve also updated that page to include information about my fall classes for adults. In this issue: - Promising Young Writers! Summer Camp Returns to Waubonsee Community College - Girls Write! Summer Camps at Mayslake Peabody Estate - Connect with me on Facebook * Promising Young Writers! Summer Camp Returns to Waubonsee Community College There are still openings in this co-ed writing camp for students ages 11-14 to be held at the Waubonsee Community College Sugar Grove Campus. Here's the description: In this camp, you'll hear excerpts from great children’s books, play word-related games, create writing in a variety of forms and share your works with each other. You'll learn where writers your age can get published and leave with your own composition book containing your work. July 20-24, 2015, 9 am – noon. * Girls Write! Summer Camps at Mayslake Peabody Estate The Mayslake Peabody Estate turned out to be a terrific venue for the Girls Write! summer writing camps. This year, the camp for girls entering grades 4-5 (ages 9-11) will be held July 27-31 at 9:30 am-noon. The camp for girls entering grades 6-8 (ages 12-14) will be held Aug. 10-14 at 9:30 am – noon. These girls-only camps are designed specifically to empower and affirm budding girl authors. Activities include playing writing-related games, listening to literature by women authors, experimenting with different writing techniques, and providing feedback to each other. Girls write in a variety of forms, including poetry, memoir, and fiction. They also receive help revising and polishing their work. By the end of the camp, students will have created an anthology of their work, and made some new friends! Note: classes are limited to 12 students, so register early! * Connect with me on Facebook If you'd like to see more timely updates on what I'm doing, feel free to friend me on Facebook.
