September 28, 2009
Welcome to the latest edition of my e-mail newsletter! September has been a busy month. In this issue: • Last call for this Saturday’s adult writing class • My most recent online interview • Another book giveaway at www.TeachingAuthors.com • Calling all writers to Prairie Writer’s Day (where I will be on the faculty) • Please help “spread the word” Last call for this Saturday’s class If you are interested in this Saturday’s class on Turning Life into Fiction, please register by Thursday, Oct. 1, or the class may be canceled due to low enrollment. See details below. The following class for adults will be held at the Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook: Turning Life into Fiction Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 9 a.m.—3 p.m. This one-day workshop will introduce you to techniques for creating fiction based on your own life events, or those of others. Learn how to mine your past for story ideas and details that will bring your fiction to life. Find out how published authors create composite characters from real people and turn anecdotes into stories that have a beginning, middle, and end. Please bring a sack lunch. Cost for the day is $60, which includes coffee/tea/water service. (Don't forget to bring your own lunch!) My most recent online interview I recently had the honor of being interviewed on author Scotti Cohn's blog. You can read the interview at: http://ihichicago.blogspot.com/2009/09/todays-guest-is-carmela-martino-author.html Another book giveaway at www.TeachingAuthors.com Today at www.TeachingAuthors.com, we are featuring a Guest Teaching Author Interview with Elizabeth Dulemba as part of the blog tour for her new bilingual picture book SOAP, SOAP, SOAP ~ JABON, JABON, JABON. This is our first interview with an author who is also an illustrator! In honor of Elizabeth’s visit, we will be giving away an autographed copy of her new book. You have until midnight Wednesday, Sept. 30 (CST), to enter for a chance to win. Do stop by! http://www.teachingauthors.com/2009/09/guest-teaching-authorillustrator.html Calling all writers to Prairie Writer’s Day (where I will be on the faculty) Prairie Writer’s Day is an annual one-day conference organized by the Illinois chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
