I've had a busy and fun summer, teaching more than I have in years. And the busy-ness continues into fall as I prepare to teach a brand new class: "The Artist's Way Workshop." This Wednesday I'll be presenting a FREE "Lunch Break Lecture" introducing potential students to the class. See below for details. Cost: FREE * New Course: "The Artist's Way Workshop" featured as "Course Spotlight" at College of DuPage No matter how you express your artistic nature, whether through writing, painting, photography, cooking, music, or some other outlet, this workshop will help you unleash and/or reconnect with your inner creative spirit. In this 12-session workshop, I will facilitate your journey toward a more creative life in a nourishing, non-judgmental environment using Julia Cameron's life-changing book The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity as a guide. The course is currently featured in the "New Course Spotlight" on the Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Page, which you'll find here, along with a "Faculty Spotlight" on me in the sidebar. Note: The Artist's Way is a required text for this course. Be sure to bring the text, plus a pen and notebook or journal, to the first class. * Two New Adult Writing Classes at Waubonsee Community College this Fall 1) Six-Week Hands-On Workshop: Writing for Children and Teens The best writing for children and teens needs as much craft (perhaps more!) as writing for adults. I'll guide you in writing both fiction and nonfiction for young readers. Select the subject matter, point of view, and voice for your intended audience. Then create appealing and engaging characters, plots, and settings for various formats including magazines, picture books, and novels. Register for the course number ending in 721 and you'll get verbal feedback on class assignments. Register for the course number ending in 722 and you'll get verbal and written feedback on assignments from the instructor (up to 1200 words per assignment). Note: Bring a notebook and pencil/pen to class. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 14, 2014 7—9 p.m. Course Number: 11721. $59. Course Number: 11722. $79. 2) Four-Week Critique Workshop: Writing for Children and Teens Continued Deepen your craft of writing for children and teens while revising your own work. This hands-on workshop is a continuation of Writing for Children and Teens and will teach you how to hone your writing by critically studying your own work and that of your classmates. Bring copies of your manuscript – a picture book, nonfiction piece, short story, or novel chapter of 1200 words or less – to the first class to receive individualized, detailed feedback toward a finished manuscript. Register for the course ending in 027 and you’ll get verbal feedback on class assignments. Register for the section ending in 030 and you’ll get verbal and written feedback on assignments from the instructor (up to 1200 words per assignment).
