In this class for adult writers, I'll present the building blocks of writing fiction for young readers, from picture books and magazines to teen novels. Learn how to develop characters, plots, settings, and viewpoint in ways that will hook young readers and keep them turning the pages. See the Writing Classes page of my website for details: http://www.carmelamartino.com/events.htm ********** Poetry Publication and Launch Celebration! My poem, "At the Chicago Marathom," a list poem inspired by a runner I saw compete in the 2010 Chicago Marathon, is one of several poems about Paralympic athletes included in the brand new anthology AND THE CROWD GOES WILD! A GLOBAL GATHERING OF SPORTS POEMS edited by Carol-Ann Hoyte and Heidi Bee Roemer. This anthology celebrates a wide spectrum of sports, from rock climbing to lacrosse, tennis to ping-pong, and swimming to soccer. Fifty poets, representing 10 countries, share a mix of thoughtful and humorous perspectives on all aspects of athletics. Award-winning Canadian author-illustrator Kevin Sylvester lends energy to the poems with exuberant pen-and-ink drawings. It's a book that’s sure to be a slam dunk for readers ages 8 - 12. And a portion of the proceeds from sales of the book will be donated to Right to Play, an international organization that uses sports and games to educate and empower children facing adversity. If you'd like to get an autographed copy, I'll be joining Heidi Roemer and 5 other poets featured in the collection at Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 pm. A limited number of copies will be available, so pre-ordering is recommended. You can read more about the event at the Anderson's website listing for "Heidi Roemer and Friends" at http://www.andersonsbookshop.com/events. Or visit my Facebook page. You can also order the book online (in paperback or as an ebook) at the official website: http://crowdgoeswildpoems.wordpress.com/order/ For a "sneak peak" at my poem and to read more about how it came to be published, see my blog interview with Heidi Roemer at: http://www.teachingauthors.com/2012/08/book-giveaway-and-guest-teachingauthor.html ********** Private Facilitated Critique Workshop I'm currently planning to offer a private "Facilitated Critique Workshop in Writing Fiction for Children and Teens" from 7-9 pm Thursdays, 10/18, 11/1, 11/15, 11/27.
